Project 1: Gender Expression
For my first project the thinking skill was contextualization. Gender expression is something everyone deals with. No matter if you are cis-gender, trans-gender, and/or cross gender expressing. I wanted to look into why gender expression is so important to people's identity and the history of equal rights in America for the LGBTQ+ community. With putting them together I started to explore the need for people to be treated equally and not be discriminated against for just being themselves.
English & Social Studies
For this project I combined english and social studies. I wanted to write a letter to Representative Brian Sims from Pennsylvania. In this letter I included acts and guidelines that help bring equality for the LGBTQ+ community, such as the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (this exists to help those as risk of discrimination/harassment in the workplace) and the guidelines released by the Pa Human Commission that included the IGBTQ+ community in all anti discrimination acts. But, I also emphasized the need for the Equality Act because without the Equality Act there is no real protection from harassment, violence, and discrimination. In the last section of the letter I included the history of trans-gender people in Hollywood and how it has affected the modern idea of trans-gender people. I used contextualization to help bring all of the pieces together to make once final product that paints a full picture.
