Project 3:
For this project the thinking skill was reasoning. To show this I wanted to take a look at the Met Gala. The Met Gala is an event that raises money for the fashion institute at the museum. Many people attend this event including musicians, actors, designers, politicians and more. During this project I want to research/learn this event and the reasoning behind certain details about it.
English
For this project I completed the assignments that needed to be done for Smart Futures. I completed the resume, and I wrote my college common app essay.
For my common app essay I followed the prompt about lessons we take from obstacles we encounter. I wrote about my experience being in dance, and the set backs I had/have in that environment. That is where I got my fear of judgment and I talk about what I learned from that.
Social Studies
For Social studies I wanted to explore why politicians attend the Met Gala. Through this I began to research campaign finance/contribution limits. I looked at why the politicians are invited in the first place, after that I looked at what they do when they are at the event. Because attending the event could be seen as campaigning there is the question of if politician's attendance is ethical. That is where I started to research the limits and laws of campaign funding/contributions. To show this I created a public statement from Congresswomen Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez after her attendance of the Met Gala. This showed transparency in why she was there, and if it was ethical or not.
Art
For my art project I came up with my own Met Gala theme, "The Roaring 20s". With this I then had to research what goes into coming up with a new theme and how they do it. I had to understand what they need to think of in order for the theme to work. I had to think why the theme would hold longevity, and I had to research what fashion looked like in the 1920s so people would understand the theme in context to the event. With all of this research, I used it to create a presentation to pitch my theme idea. I included why the event hold longevity, and I also included examples of fashion from the 1920s.
