Project 2:
For this project the thinking skill was perspective. To show this I wanted to take a book I had recently read, Call Me By Your Name. This is the story of a grad student, Oliver, visiting Professor Pearlman to study pre-socratic philosophy and the natural law. The professor has a son, Elio. Over the span of six weeks in the summer they fall in love and come to terms with who they truly are. The story is written from Elio's point of view, so when you learn about this love story you only really see Elio's perspective. For this project I decided that I wanted to look at the story from Oliver's perspective and see how he felt during it.
English
For this project I wanted to write a poem from the perspective of Oliver. The poem is a love poem to Elio and it's just about how he feels. To write this poem I went back to the book and found different instances where little bits of information are shared about Oliver's point of view on the relationship. I also had to look at the symbolism in the book about Oliver because nothing was directly said about Oliver's perspective. I had to look at what he said, and how he treated Elio and his love for him.
Social Studies
For Social studies I wanted to write a persuasive essay explaining why natural rights are so important for the rights of U.S citizens. I wanted to write the essay how Oliver would feel about these rights, and write the essay how he would in present time. Because he studied this topic, and eventually becomes a professor on the topic I can infer that he supports the theories of natural rights. I also can infer this because he praises Elio's father for being so open about a homosexual relationship, and he supports the idea of "live and let live" which is a foundational message of natural rights.
Art
For my art project I created a box that shows different artifacts from the book that represent Oliver or shows how he felt/treated the relationship. I looked at different things that Elio would use to remember Oliver and represented Oliver. From there I look at those things and related it how he would look at them. I also looked at different things that Oliver did/said that foreshadowed how he looked that the relationship.
The Process of The Project
Process is a very important step to every project you make, and everyones is different. For my process I started with questions I wanted answered so I had some structure to my research. After I created my questions/overall category I started looking around and researching. For my notes I labeled what question it related to and made a note for what link it came from on my sources page. When you look at the source page you will see the questions with links, and under the links is a brief statement for what information the link gave me.
